There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia casinos that reside just across the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall gambling is not legal. Eight casinos are based in a generally small area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime area, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few restrictions requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; although, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and despite the fact visas are apparently needed to pass, there are means around this, as is real of most borders.

The original Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship casino, contains 150 slots and sixty gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machine games and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational vacation and hotel building that features a number of conveniences aside from the casino, which provides ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machine games and eighty eight gaming tables.
